Hola de nuevo a todos los seguidores/as de esta pequeña ventana de información al mundo del arte.

En medio de esta hermosa primavera madrileña no dejan de sucederse un buen montón de eventos artísticos en la ciudad y, por eso, aunque brevemente por el poco tiempo del que dispongo, os comento algunos de los que más me han impresionado o en las que estoy involucrado.

Me gustaría destacar la nueva, magistral y siempre irónica exposición individual del artista MANUEL BARBERO, titulada “Naturaleza española” que presenta en la Galería Blanca Soto de la capital. Una vez más Barbero nos presenta, a través de tres de sus series de trabajo (“Charquitos de España”, “Cultivos de mandrágoras” y “Bichos de la península”), una demostración de su buen hacer. Os la recomiendo, es sencillamente genial!!

También acaba de inaugurar en el Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia en Madrid, el joven artista IGNACIO CHÁVARRI. Me hace mucha ilusión presentar esta divertida y a la vez profunda exposición, de este madrileño al que conocí poco antes de mi estancia en Finlandia, dónde él ya había vivido (en una residencia de arte en Ii, al norte de Finlandia, cerca de Oulu), precisamente durante el tiempo de realización de las obras que ahora presenta. Se titula “¿En tu casa o en la mía? / meille vai teille?” y gira en torno a la visión del superhéroe que todo finlandés lleva consigo.

Nos presenta varias series de su trabajo derivado de aquel comienzo en Finlandia , a través de dibujos, fotografías, objetos y vídeos. Absolutamente recomendable!!!

Aunque aún sin inaugurar (será en breve), este pasado fin de semana se ha publicado ya en el ABC Cultural un reportaje sobre “espacio trapézio”. Se trata del nuevo espacio artístico en Madrid del que ya os había hablado anteriormente y en el que estoy involucrado.

Poco a poco, el proyecto ha ido cogiendo forma y contenido y ya estamos listos para el despegue. Lo mejor es que visitéis la web para enteraros mejor del proyecto.

Y en cuanto a mi proyecto personal Kulttuurin Tuotanto, puedo contaros que sigue avanzando gracias al nuevo impulso de la Embajada de España en Finlandia y al posible apoyo de otras organizaciones e instituciones que se van interesando en él y que pronto, espero, sean realidad.

De momento, esta misma semana, lo volveré a presentar dentro de INTRANSIT, en el Centro de Arte Complutense de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, dentro de su ciclo “On the road”. Ya os contaré.

MAY / ART / MADRID

Hello again to all followers of this narrow window of information to the world of art.

Amid this beautiful spring Madrid succeed not stop a good deal of artistic events in the city and, therefore, briefly about the limited time available, I comment on some of the ones I have been impressed or that I'm involved.

I would highlight the new, brilliant and always ironic solo exhibition of the artist MANUEL BARBERO, entitled "Spanish Nature" featuring Blanca Soto Gallery in the capital. Again Barbero shows us through three of his series of work ("puddle of Spain", "mandrake Crop" and "Bugs on the peninsula"), a demonstration of his good performance. I recommend it, is simply brilliant!

Also recently opened at the Iberoamerican Institute of Finland in Madrid, the young artist IGNACIO CHÁVARRI. I am really happy to present this funny and deep exhibition of this artist from Madrid I met shortly before my stay in Finland, where he had lived (in an art residency in Ii, northern Finland, near Oulu) precisely during the time of creation of the work now presented. The title is "Your place or mine? / Meille vai teille? "And revolves around the vision of the superhero who lives inside every Finnish people.

He presents several series and derivative works that started in Finland, through drawings, photographs, objects and video. Absolutely recommended!

PRIMAVERA A TOPE DE ARTE EN MADRID

Hola de nuevo, seguidores/as de este blog!!

Las semanas vienen cargadas de trabajo y esto hace que se espacien más de lo que yo quisiera estos posts en mi blog. Espero que, al menos, la información que os voy dando os resulte de utilidad.

El mes de Marzo y la entrada de la primavera han llegado repletas de actividad artística en Madrid. Así, por ejemplo, resaltaría las múltiples exposiciones del artista Daniel Canogar, entre Marzo y Abril, por toda la ciudad: “Vórtices” en la Fundación Canal, “Travesías” en el Canal de Isabel II y “Spin” en la Galería Max Estrella. Además, tiene exposiciones en curso en Milán (Italia), Vitoria (España) y Utah y New York (EEUU).

Personalmente, me parece uno de los grandes exponentes del arte actual en España y merece la pena conocer y disfrutar de sus esculturas, instalaciones, fotografías,…en fin, de la obra de este activo artista multidisciplinar. Os adjunto su web. www.danielcanogar.com

También os cuento que se acaba de inaugurar otra nueva exposición en el Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia en Madrid. Esta vez la artista es Jasmin Anoschkin, una joven artista finlandesa que nos presenta una serie de pinturas y esculturas potentes y cargadas de ironía que hablan de la infancia y de la mujer. Esta es la primera exposición individual de la artista fuera de su país de origen. ¡Os la recomiendo! www.madrid.fi

Siguiendo con artistas finlandesas, me gustaría resaltar también la estupenda exposición de fotografía de Milla-Kariina Oja, titulada “Home Project”, en la Galería Hippolyte de Helsinki, sede de la Unión de Artistas Fotógrafos , de Finlandia.
Milla, es una de las artistas que estaban también residiendo en HIAP durante mi estancia allí el pasado otoño. Es finlandesa pero ha vivido en muchos lugares del mundo como Londres, Barcelona, China,…y ahora, de vuelta en Finlandia, vive y trabaja en Helsinki. Conozco la fotografías y el proyecto que ahora expone y, sinceramente, si estáis en Helsinki o cerca, os recomiendo que no os las perdáis. www.hippolyte.fi

Por aquí en Madrid, este fin de semana pasado ha tenido lugar un estupendo proyecto titulado “Jugada a 3 bandas”, con el que un grupo de comisarios y galerías de la ciudad han decidido unir sus fuerzas por primera vez con el objetivo de lograr una mayor sinergia entre el sector profesional, los artistas y el público. El proyecto pretende convertirse en una cita anual en el calendario del arte contemporáneo de Madrid.

Personalmente, quiero destacar la exposición “Scena & Dungeon” de los artistas Luc Mattenberger y Jacopo Miliani , en la Galería Raquel Ponce, comisariaza por Javier Duero. www.a3bandas.org www.galeriaraquelponce.es

Y en cuanto a mi trabajo personal, os cuento que sigo adelante con el proyecto Kulttuurin Tuotanto, trabajado en sus dos vertientes, finlandesa y española, que pretendo presentar, ya bastante avanzado en INTRANSIT www.intransit.es , en el Centro de Arte Complutense, de la Universidad Complutense, el próximo mes de Mayo.

También seguimos preparando el despegue de un nuevo espacio de arte en Madrid. Digo “seguimos” porque tengo el honor, la responsabilidad y el privilegio de pertenecer al órgano de gobierno del mismo. Aunque no empezará a funcionar hasta el próximo mes de Mayo (ya os daré información más detallada de todo), os adelanto que se está concibiendo como un espacio diferente a los existentes en la ciudad, que no competirá con nadie y que pretende estar abierto a todos y que, con su estructura y su particular ubicación, se convertirá sin duda en un espacio de referencia en la escena del arte contemporáneo madrileño y español.

FULL OF ART SPRING IN MADRID

Hello again, fans of this blog!

The weeks are packed with work and this means that are spaced more than what I would like these posts on my blog. I hope that at least the information that I am going to give you can be useful.

The month of March and the beginning of spring have arrived full of artistic activity in Madrid. Thus, for example, I would highlight the many exhibitions of the artist Daniel Canogar, between March and April throughout the city: "Vórtices" at the Fundación Canal, "Travesías" in the Canal de Isabel II and "Spin" on Max Estrella Gallery. It also has ongoing exhibitions in Milan (Italy), Vitoria (Spain) and Utah and New York (USA).

I tell you that it´s also just opened a new exhibition at the Instituto Iberoamericano of Finland in Madrid. Here in Madrid this past weekend has been a great project "3-way play" with a group of curators and galleries in the city have joined forces for the first time with the aim of achieving greater synergy between the professional sector, the artists and the public. The project aims to become an annual event in the calendar of contemporary art in Madrid.

Also we are preparing the launch of a new art space in Madrid. I say "we" because I have the honor, responsibility and the privilege of belonging to the governing body. Although not start running until next May (I'll give more detailed information on everything), I advance that is being devised as a different space from those in the city, which will not compete with anyone and that aims to be open to all and that its structure and its particular location, is sure to become a benchmark in the contemporary art scene in Madrid and Spain.

FEBRERO INTENSO EN MADRID

Hola otra vez a todos/as!!

Efectivamente, Febrero ha sido un mes intenso en actividad artística en Madrid, sobre todo marcado por las ferias de arte que se han celebrado. Este año han tenido lugar, simultáneamente, nada menos que 5 ferias, de las cuales yo resaltaría justo las dos más distantes en trayectoria: la más veterana ARCO y la más joven (esta era su segunda edición) JUSTMADRID.

Esta última se celebró en un céntrico edificio de Madrid con un formato muy atractivo y diferente al de las demás, con muy buena organización y una muy alta calidad en la selección de las propuestas artísticas que se mostraban. La feria se desarrollaba a lo largo de las cuatro plantas del edificio, conservando casi intacta la disposición arquitectónica de sus espacios. Esto potenciaba la frescura y el dinamismo de la feria y le daba un carácter de identidad que la diferenciaba, sin rivalizar con ninguna de las demás ferias paralelas.

Además, en su sección “Producers´Desk”, tuve ocasión de presentar la evolución de mi proyecto “KULTTUURIN TUOTANTO / PRODUCCIÓN CULTURAL. Sistemas de producción del arte actual en Finlandia y España” y de hablar un rato sobre HIAP, la residencia para artistas en Helsinki donde estuve viviendo durante mi estancia en Finlandia el pasado otoño de 2010. Adjunto a la lista el link de la feria.

En este mes también se inauguró en la sede del Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia en Madrid la exposición de la artista finlandesa Outi Turpeinen titulada “En busca de mi hogar interior”. Una muy buena muestra de sus serigrafías sobre vidrio y alguna obra sobre tela realizada specific site para la sala expositiva. Además, la artista en colaboración con Sari Kaasinen (artista sonora finlandesa) habían compuesto una buenísima pieza musical expresamente para la exposición, titulada “El reto del silencio” (“Hiljaisuuden haaste”). Os la recomiendo.

De paso, me gustaría reseñar el importante apoyo que estoy recibiendo para mi proyecto por parte de este Instituto. Ayuda bibliográfica para mi publicación, traductores, ayuda para crear en colaboración el diseño de la web del proyecto, ayuda para organizar el seminario del próximo otoño en Helsinki,…en fin un gran apoyo.

Y por último hablaros también del apoyo entusiasta que he recibido recientemente del Embajador de Finlandia en España, Markku Keinänen. Un hombre sencillo, cercano y muy activo que se interesó y se ilusionó con el proyecto y me ofreció todo su apoyo. Creo que está realmente convencido y continuamente trabajando por lo maravilloso que puede ser conectar y crear lazos entre Finlandia y España. Fue un verdadero placer conocerle.

DEEP FEBRUARY IN MADRID

Hello again to everyboby!

In fact, February has been an intense month in Madrid in artistic activity, especially marked by the art fairs that have been held. This year they have taken place simultaneously, no less than 5 art fairs, of which I would highlight just the two most distant history: the oldest one ARCO, and youngest JUSTMADRID (this was his second edition).

The latter was held in a downtown building in Madrid with a very attractive format and different from the others, with very good organization and a very high quality in the selection of the artistic proposals that were shown. The fair was taking place over four floors of the building, keeping almost intact the architectural layout of their spaces. This enhanced the freshness and dynamism of the show and gave it a character which differentiated identity, not compete with any other parallel fairs.

Furthermore, in its section "Producers'Desk" I had an opportunity to show the evolution of my project "KULTTUURIN TUOTANTO / PRODUCTION CULTURAL. Production systems of contemporary art in Finland and Spain "and talk a bit about HIAP, residence for artists in Helsinki where I lived during my stay in Finland in the autumn of 2010. In this month also opened at the headquarters of the Iberoamerican Institute of Finland in Madrid the exhibition of Finnish artist Outi Turpeinen entitled "In search of my home inside." A very good example of his silkscreen prints on glass and on canvas done like specific works for the exhibition hall. In addition, the artist in collaboration with Sari Kaasinen (Finnish sound artist) had a very good piece of music composed for the exhibition, entitled "The Challenge of silence" ("Hiljaisuuden haaste”). I recommend it.

By the way, I would summarize the important support that I received for my project by the Institute. Help for bibliography and documentation, translators, help to create collaborative web design project, helping to organize the seminar this autumn in Helsinki, ... so much support.

And finally speak well of enthusiastic support that I have received recently from the Ambassador of Finland in Spain, Markku Keinänen. A simple man, close and very active who was very interested and excited about the project and offered me their support. EMPEZANDO CON FUERZA EL 2011!

Hola de nuevo a todos/as seguidores de este blog…si es que hay alguien que aún lo siga.

Desde mi última intervención hace un poco más de un mes, no he estado en absoluto parado. Precisamente esa ha sido la razón de mi silencio, que no he parado.

Tras las jornadas de AVAM en Matadero Madrid, las fiestas navideñas y el comienzo del año nuevo, tiempo necesario e intencionadamente autoimpuesto para dejar “sedimentar” mi experiencia finlandesa, han ido madurando y brotando los frutos de la misma como era de esperar. Os iré contando poco a poco.

Así, por ejemplo, el año empezó con la sorprendente noticia de que la Embajada de Finlandia en España se quiere sumar a apoyar activamente mi proyecto. Yo sólo quería contarle a su Agregada Cultural, Eva Hannikainen, que ya había regresado de Finlandia y comentarle algunos aspectos de mi provechosa estancia allí y de la evolución del proyecto desde que ella lo conoció al principio hasta ahora. Mi sorpresa fue que, no sólo le encantó si no que me ofreció todo su apoyo y su intención de implicarse como colaboradores activos en el mismo. No podía dar crédito a lo que estaba pasando…!!

Ya sabéis que además, este año 2011, Turku, la antigua capital de Finlandia, es la Capital Europea de la cultura.
No sé, parece como si todo lo que sonase a Finlandia fuese sinónimo de “cultura”.

En fin, el caso es que de esta manera ya están las dos Embajadas involucradas en el proyecto. La de España en Finlandia, de la mano de Xavier Bellmont (el Encargado de Asuntos Culturales), gracias a su empeño por defenderlo en todo momento, y la de Finlandia en España, gracias al interés también de Eva Hannikainen.

La verdad es que parece que, aunque sea de la forma más casual a veces, todas las piezas parece que van encajando. Tiene todo el sentido que en un proyecto pensado para crear lazos de unión, sinergias y redes de colaboración entre las comunidades artísticas de Finlandia y España, estén colaborando las Embajadas de ambos países. Parece lógico, sí…pero ¿quién me lo iba a haber dicho a mí hace unos meses…?

Os mantendré informados del cronograma y los acontecimientos que, alrededor del proyecto, tengo previstos para este año.

Y la segunda noticia que os adelanto en este espacio de comunicación, es que se me ha presentado la maravillosa oportunidad de participar en la creación de un nuevo espacio artístico que se inaugurará la próxima primavera en Madrid.
Será un espacio muy diferente a los actualmente existentes en la capital española, creado desde criterios como la calidad artística, el rigor profesional, la transparencia, la pluralidad, el trabajo colaborativo, la gestión democrática, en fin…un verdadero “oasis” para artistas y profesionales del mundo del arte, que ya era hora de que existiese en Madrid.
Ya os iré contando todos los detalles.

STARTING STRONGLY 2011!

Hello again to all the followers of this blog ... if there is still someone following it.

Since my last statement a little more than a month, I was not at all stopped. Precisely this has been the reason for my silence, I have not stopped.

After seminar of AVAM in Matadero Madrid, the Christmas time and the beginning of the new year, necessary time and intentionally self-imposed to leave "settle" my Finnish experience, have matured and the fruits sprouting the same as expected. I'll tell you bit by bit.

For example, the year began with the surprising news that the Finnish Embassy in Spain wants to add actively to support my project. I just wanted to tell to her Cultural Attache, Eva Hannikainen, that I had already returned from Finland and tell rewarding aspects of my stay there and the progress of the project since she met it from the first until now. My surprise was that not only loved it but she gave me all their support and their intention to become involved as active partners in it. I didn´t can believe what was happening ...!

You know that also this year 2011, Turku, Finland's former capital, is the European Capital of Culture.
I don´t know, it seems like everything sounded to Finland was synonymous with "culture."

Finally, the fact is that in this way, both embassies are involved in the project. Of Spain in Finland, at the hands of Xavier Bellmont (the Cultural Affairs Officer), thanks to his efforts to defend it at all times, and Finland in Spain, thanks to the interest of Eva Hannikainen, also.

The truth is that it seems that even the most casual at times, all the pieces appear to go into place. It makes perfect sense in a project designed to create links, synergies and networks of collaboration between artistic communities in Finland and Spain, are helping the embassies of both countries. It seems logical, yes ... but who was going to said me it a few months ago ...?

I will keep you informed of the schedule and events, around the project, I have planned for this year.

The second story that I advance you in this area of communication, is that it has presented to me a wonderful opportunity to participate in the creation of a new artistic space that will open next spring in Madrid.
It will be a very different space than the existing ones in the Spanish capital, created from criteria such as artistic quality, the professionalism, transparency, pluralism, collaborative work, democratic governance, etc ... a true "oasis" for artists and professionals of the art world, it was time that existed in Madrid.

IMPARABLE CRECIMIENTO DE LAS REDES DEL ARTE

Hola de Nuevo amigos/as seguidores de este blog.

Mucha actividad y mucha energía en este final de año aquí en Madrid.

Esta semana se han celebrado en Matadero Madrid las jornadas organizadas por AVAM (Artistas Visuales Asociados de Madrid) tituladas “Espacios para la producción artística” en las que se ha hablado y debatido en torno a la gestión, productividad, desarrollo socio- económico y la repercusión mediática de estos centros.

Yo estaba invitado para hacer una ponencia en relación a los centros de producción en Finlandia. Hablé de HIAP en Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter en Tampere y el Cartes Centre of Art and Technology de Espoo. La verdad es que creo que mi intervención suscitó bastante interés, tal vez por la curiosidad y/o el desconocimiento real que tenemos en España de lo finlandés en general y de su funcionamiento del arte en concreto.

Las jornadas estuvieron muy bien planteadas por parte de AVAM y muy bien acogidas/apoyadas en/por Matadero.
Muy interesantes las intervenciones de Pep Dardanya, director de Can Xalant, Marisa Maza , artista y representante de la Fundación Kart Hofer de Berlín, Ander Azpiri, artista y presidente de AVAM que nos presentó algunos centros en Latinoamérica, Alessio Antoniolli, el director de Gasworks y Triangle de Londres, Laura Dor´s, representante de la Fundación Duende de Rótterdam, Ignacio Cabrero que nos presentó los centros de recursos que conoció en el estudio que realizó de ellos en París.

Muy interesantes también las mesas redondas con economistas y arquitectos de la talla del profesor Loscos, José Félix Fernández y Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos y la de los medios de comunicación a cargo de Lara López, directora de Radio 3, Carlos Guerrero, director de Arteinformado, el representante del área de cultura de Madrid de El País (Pablo…) y Tony Flix de Madrid Procesos.

Tuvimos ocasión de conocer la experiencia y las obras de los primeros artistas que han habitado y producido en los Talleres AVAM de Pradolongo: David Trullo, Albert Corbí, Kivi Collective, Jesús Nieto y LRM Performance.
Y conocimos los planes y reformas de sus espacios que para 2011 está preparando Matadero Madrid…una auténtica pasada.

Lo que más me gustó fue conocer los proyectos, ya en marcha, de creación, por fin, de varios Centros de Producción Artística en Madrid y su Comunidad. “El Ranchito” que gestionará y dependerá de Matadero (este ya ha empezado a funcionar de forma provisional); el que tendrá a medio plazo AVAM con sede también en una de las naves de Matadero y otro, también promovido por AVAM en Getafe (esto aún es un pre-proyecto pero tendría como 35 estudios, residencia para artistas, talleres especializados de producción, auditorio, etc).

Paralelamente en Madrid se celebró el LAB LATINO, una iniciativa muy interesante del Centro de Arte Actual, la Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales y PENSART Cultura de Madrid, en la que se han presentado varios modelos de espacios independientes, plataformas profesionales y metodologías de trabajo en Latinoamérica. Se han visto diferentes formas de producción y las líneas de investigación de diferentes centros de producción artística en contextos como México, Venezuela, Caribe, Ecuador, Perú, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Brasil, Argentina y Nueva York.

En las diferentes sedes en las que se ha realizado ( Off Limits, Medialab-Prado y Tabacalera C.S.A.) hemos podido analizar las diferentes formas de “hacer cultura” desde los particulares marcos políticos, económicos y sociales de estos países.

En ambos eventos he tenido la sensación de que algo muy gordo y muy esperanzador se está fraguando en el mundo del Arte Contemporáneo a nivel mundial gracias al trabajo colaborativo y en red.

UNSTOPPABLE GROWTH OF THE ART NETWORKS

Hello again friends and followers of this blog.

Much activity and energy in this year end here in Madrid.

This week has been held in Matadero Madrid the seminar organized by AVAM (Associated Visual Artists of Madrid), entitled "Spaces for artistic production” in which they talked and discussed about the management, productivity, socio-economic and media coverage of these centers.

I was invited to make a presentation in relation to production centres in Finland. I talked about HIAP in Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter in Tampere and the Cartes Centre of Art and Technology in Espoo. The truth is that I think my speech aroused considerable interest, perhaps by curiosity and / or real ignorance that we have in Spain about Finland in general and for operational art in particular.

The sessions were very well used by AVAM and very well received / supported in / by Matadero.
Very interesting the interventions of Pep Dardanya , director of Can Xalant, Marisa Maza, artist and representative of the Foundation Berlin Karl Hofer, Ander Azpiri, artist and president of AVAM who introduced us a few centers in Latin America, Alessio Antoniolli, the director of Gasworks and Triangle of London, Laura Dor's, representative of the Foundation Duende in Rotterdam, Ignacio Cabrero who presented the resource centers that met in his study done in Paris.

Also interesting round tables with economists and architects of the stature of Professor Loscos, José Félix Fernández and Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos and the media by Lara López, director of Radio 3, Carlos Guerrero, director of Arteinformado, the representative of the culture of Madrid area of El País (Pablo ...) and Tony Flix from Madrid Process.

We had the opportunity to meet and work experience of the first artists who have lived and produced in the production center of Pradolongo AVAM: David Trullo, Albert Corbí, Kivi Collective, Jesus Nieto and LRM Performance. And we met the spaces reform plans for 2011 that is preparing Matadero Madrid ... far-out!

What I liked was about the projects, already underway, creating, finally, various art centers in Madrid and his community. "El Ranchito" who manage and depend on Matadero (this has already begun work on an interim basis), the medium term which will AVAM also based in one of the ships of Matadero and another, also promoted by AVAM in Getafe (this is still a pre-project but would have 35 studios, a residence for artists, production workshops, auditorium, etc).

Madrid was held in parallel in the LAB LATINO, a very interesting initiative of the Center for Contemporary Art, Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences and PENSART Madrid, where there have been several independent space models, platforms and methods of working professionals in Latin America. Have been different forms of production and the research of different art centers in contexts such as Mexico, Venezuela, Caribbean, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina and New York.

In the different locations where it has been done (Off Limits, Medialab-Prado and Tabacalera CSA) have been able to analyze the different ways of "doing culture" private political frameworks, economic and social structures of those countries.

At both events I had the feeling that something big and very promising is brewing in the world of Contemporary Art worldwide thanks to collaborative work and networking.

Hello again everyone from Madrid!

I'm still in the process of adaptation to my daily life in my city but I still keep alive the link with Finland and Finnish, which I have been, I believe, forever hooked.

For example, this week in Madrid, it has celebrated the opening of the exhibition of the famous Finnish artist Juhani Linnovaara, at the new headquarters of the Iberoamerican Institute of Finland, with the presence of the artist.
Linnovaara, creative artist and mature but still very active, this time presents a good selection of prints (serigraphs), some of them marked by the strong influence that Spain and Latin America have had on his work.

In the new space of the Caracas street in Madrid, that day were also other Finnish artists as the renowned painter Totte Mannes, different personalities of the Finnish community in Spain, the Ambassador of Finland in Spain and, of course, Martti Pärssinen, director of the institution which housed the exhibition. I have also heard from the good progress of the new movie what is working the famous Finnish artist Rax Rinnekangas, of which I've ever spoken.
This is a feature film made in collaboration with the Basque Country/ “País Vasco” (northern Spain), from which we could see the trailer for presentation at last edition's Film Festival San Sebastian. The film is titled "A Journey to Eden" and will premiere in 2011 in Finland and Spain. I will keep you informed. Surely in the web of "Bad Taste Ltd" we will have information soon. And I announce my next speech in the seminar that AVAM (Associated Visual Artists of Madrid) will organize in Matadero Madrid under the title "Spaces for Artistic Creation" .My presentation will focus on some of the centers I have met during my stay in Finland over the past months: HIAP in Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter in Tampere and Cartes Centre of Art and Technology in Espoo. Hola de nuevo a todos desde Madrid!!

Estoy todavía en proceso de adaptación a mi realidad cotidiana en mi ciudad pero sigo manteniendo vivo y activo el vínculo con Finlandia y lo finlandés, al que he quedado, creo, para siempre enganchado.

Por ejemplo, esta semana en Madrid, se ha celebrado la inauguración de la exposición del afamado pintor finlandés Juhani Linnovaara, en la nueva sede del Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia, con la presencia del artista.
Linnovaara, artista ya maduro pero creativamente aún muy activo, nos presenta en esta ocasión una buena selección de grabados (serigrafías), algunos de ellos marcados por la fuerte influencia que España y Latinoamérica han ejercido en su obra.

En la nueva sede de la calle Caracas de Madrid se encontraban también ese día otros artistas finlandeses como la prestigiosa pintora Totte Mannes, diferentes personalidades de la comunidad finlandesa en España, el Embajador de Finlandia en España y, por supuesto, Martti Pärssinen, director de la institución que albergaba la exposición. También he tenido noticias de la buena marcha de la nueva película en la que está trabajando el prestigioso artista finlandés Rax Rinnekangas, del que ya os he hablado alguna vez.

Se trata de un largometraje realizado en colaboración con el País Vasco (norte de España), del que ya pudimos ver el trailer de presentación en la pasada edición del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián. La película se titula “Un viaje al Edén” y se estrenará en 2011 en Finlandia y España. Os mantendré informados. Seguro que en la web de “Bad Taste Ltd” tendremos información en breve. Y os anuncio mi próxima intervención en las jornadas que AVAM (Artistas Visuales Asociados de Madrid) organizará en Matadero Madrid bajo el título de “Espacios para la Creación Artística”. Mi ponencia se centrará en algunos de los centros que he conocido durante mi estancia en Finlandia los pasados meses como: HIAP en Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter en Tampere o Cartes Centre of Art and Technology de Espoo. HELSINKI-MADRID: present and future

Sí, a unos -10ºC hoy en Helsinki, inicio mi regreso a España para continuar desde Madrid con mi proyecto. Por supuesto, este blog seguirá siendo un canal abierto para la información y la comunicación, al igual que los habituales info@gilfer.es y www.gilfer.es

Esta semana también ha estado cargada de eventos en Helsinki como, por ejemplo, el Baltic Circle Festival (Internacional Theatre Festival) del que me gustaría resaltar, en su sección de Performance, la última de Leif Holmstrand (SWE) titulada “Wearing the Territorial (down)”. Una obra que habla de los límites entre la performance y la escultura, el cuerpo humano y la instalación, el proceso y el objeto,…muy buena. Amenizada por una pieza sonora grabada por el propio artista con el sonido distorsionado, recogido con un teléfono móvil estropeado, de sus propios ronquidos mientras dormía…genial!!... Un gran artista este Leif.

Y también la preformance sonora de Hans Rosenstróm titulada “Three Apart”, una instalación sonora narrativa en la que el público, en grupos de tres personas cada vez, asistía en medio de una sala oscura, durante tan sólo 6 minutos, a una experiencia sonora impresionantemente real y estremecedora. Sin moverte de tu silla, podías oir como los dos narradores de una historia (hombre y mujer) hablaban pasando detrás de ti, de un lado a otro, alrededor de los tres espectadores / oyentes que allí estábamos. Al final, la narradora, terminaba la historia susurrándote al oído y echándote su aliento, con un realismo que te ponía los pelos de punta. Allí no había nadie, claro. Todo era una grabación. Tuve ocasión también de conocer a dos muy buenos pintores finlandeses: la jóven Kukka, que recientemente había expuesto en la Galería Forsblom de Helsinki, con una obra muy buena, cargada de concepto y plasticidad, a la vez que un poco “dura” para el espectador no iniciado en este mundillo. Me recibió en su estudio y pude disfrutar de sus comentarios y reafirmarme en la valía y el interés de su obra. Os adjunto el enlace a su web. Y pude conocer a Henry Wuorila Stenberg, veterano y reconocido pintor finlandés (muy merecido por la gran calidad de su trabajo) quien me obsequió con sus conocimientos acerca del mundo del arte en Finlandia y me enseñó, en exclusiva, algunas de las obras que mostrará en su próxima exposición en Febrero de 2011 en su galería habitual de Helsinki.

Viendo las obras de estos artistas, volví a darme cuenta de que en el arte contemporáneo no es tan importante el medio de expresión que eligen los artistas. Lo realmente importante es lo que cuentan, cómo lo cuentan y el grado de honestidad y coherencia que tienen consigo mismos. Normalmente, cuando todo esto funciona, el resultado son buenísimas obras como las de estos artistas y tantos otros que he podido ver en mi estancia en Finlandia.

Se celebró un nuevo y muy interesante “Talk” dentro del ciclo HIAP TALK en la Galería Augusta en Suomenlinna. Esta vez a cargo de Nicolaus Schafhausen, comisario y director del centro Witte de With de Rótterdam que, además, es miembro de la Junta Asesora de HIAP, que se ha reunido estos días para revisar y debatir sobre el pasado, presente y futuro de esta joven pero muy, muy prometedora institución artística finlandesa.

Inauguración de la exposición de pintura de Secundino Hernández, un jóven artista español afincado en Austria, en la galería Forsblom también. Creo que podéis echar un vistazo a la web de la galería. Entusiasta y prometedor trabajo el de este artista al que pude conocer allí, en su inauguración, en medio del éxito de público y ventas.

Y celebración del MUU FOR EARS 5-6. Presentación de la nueva edición de su colección de CD´s sobre arte sonoro y música experimental, esta vez centrado en la escena de Estonia, Latvia, Lituania y Rusia. Os adjunto link.

Empapado por todas estas experiencias y conocimiento que he vivido este año en Helsinki, comienza ahora la siguiente fase de mi proyecto, de la que ya os iré dando cuenta periódicamente desde este blog.

This week has also been full of events in Helsinki, for example, the Baltic Circle Festival (International Theatre Festival) which I would like to emphasize, in its section on Performance, the latest of Leif Holmstrand (SWE) entitled "Wearing the Territorial ( down)”. A work that speaks of the boundaries between performance and sculpture, the human body and installation, process and object, ... very good. Entertained by a sound piece recorded by the artist with the sound distorted, taken with a mobile phone broken, of his own snorings while sleeping ... great !!... A great artist this Leif.

And also the performance of Hans Rosenstrom entitled "Three Apart", a narrative sound installation in which the public, in groups of three each time, attending in the middle of a dark room, for only 6 minutes, with sound experience real impressive and shocking. Without leaving your chair, you could hear as the two narrators of history (man and woman) spoke from behind you, from one side to another, around the three viewers / listeners who were there. In the end, the narrator, ended the story whispering and encouragement by lying, with a realism that you put the willies. There was no one, of course. Everything was a recording. Cool too. I had occasion also to meet two very good painters in Finland: the joung Kukka , who had recently exhibited at the Galerie Forsblom at Helsinki, with a very good work, full of concept and plasticity, while a bit "hard" for uninitiated spectator in this world. I was in her studio and I enjoy your comments and reaffirm the worth and interest of his work. I attached the link to her website. And I got to meet Henry Wuorila Stenberg, veteran and renowned Finnish painter (well deserved for the high quality of their work) who presented me with their knowledge about the world of art in Finland and he showed me, exclusively, some works that he will show in his upcoming exhibition in February 2011 in his usual gallery of Helsinki.

Viewing the works of these artists, I came to realize that in Contemporary Art is not as important means the media of expression that choose the artists. What really important matters is what they tell, how they tell and the degree of honesty and consistency with themselves. Normally, when all this work, the results are great works like those of these artists and many others I have seen during my stay in Finland.

There was a new and very interesting "Talk" in the cycle HIAP TALK at Gallery Augusta in Suomenlinna. This time by Nicolaus Schafhausen, curator and director of Witte de With Center Rotterdam, moreover, is a member of HIAP Advisory Board, which met these days to review and discuss the past, present and future of this young but very, very promising Finnish art institution.
