IMPARABLE CRECIMIENTO DE LAS REDES DEL ARTE

Hola de Nuevo amigos/as seguidores de este blog.

Mucha actividad y mucha energía en este final de año aquí en Madrid.

Esta semana se han celebrado en Matadero Madrid las jornadas organizadas por AVAM (Artistas Visuales Asociados de Madrid) tituladas “Espacios para la producción artística” en las que se ha hablado y debatido en torno a la gestión, productividad, desarrollo socio- económico y la repercusión mediática de estos centros.

Yo estaba invitado para hacer una ponencia en relación a los centros de producción en Finlandia. Hablé de HIAP en Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter en Tampere y el Cartes Centre of Art and Technology de Espoo. La verdad es que creo que mi intervención suscitó bastante interés, tal vez por la curiosidad y/o el desconocimiento real que tenemos en España de lo finlandés en general y de su funcionamiento del arte en concreto.

Las jornadas estuvieron muy bien planteadas por parte de AVAM y muy bien acogidas/apoyadas en/por Matadero.
Muy interesantes las intervenciones de Pep Dardanya, director de Can Xalant, Marisa Maza , artista y representante de la Fundación Kart Hofer de Berlín, Ander Azpiri, artista y presidente de AVAM que nos presentó algunos centros en Latinoamérica, Alessio Antoniolli, el director de Gasworks y Triangle de Londres, Laura Dor´s, representante de la Fundación Duende de Rótterdam, Ignacio Cabrero que nos presentó los centros de recursos que conoció en el estudio que realizó de ellos en París.

Muy interesantes también las mesas redondas con economistas y arquitectos de la talla del profesor Loscos, José Félix Fernández y Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos y la de los medios de comunicación a cargo de Lara López, directora de Radio 3, Carlos Guerrero, director de Arteinformado, el representante del área de cultura de Madrid de El País (Pablo…) y Tony Flix de Madrid Procesos.

Tuvimos ocasión de conocer la experiencia y las obras de los primeros artistas que han habitado y producido en los Talleres AVAM de Pradolongo: David Trullo, Albert Corbí, Kivi Collective, Jesús Nieto y LRM Performance.
Y conocimos los planes y reformas de sus espacios que para 2011 está preparando Matadero Madrid…una auténtica pasada.

Lo que más me gustó fue conocer los proyectos, ya en marcha, de creación, por fin, de varios Centros de Producción Artística en Madrid y su Comunidad. “El Ranchito” que gestionará y dependerá de Matadero (este ya ha empezado a funcionar de forma provisional); el que tendrá a medio plazo AVAM con sede también en una de las naves de Matadero y otro, también promovido por AVAM en Getafe (esto aún es un pre-proyecto pero tendría como 35 estudios, residencia para artistas, talleres especializados de producción, auditorio, etc).

Paralelamente en Madrid se celebró el LAB LATINO, una iniciativa muy interesante del Centro de Arte Actual, la Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales y PENSART Cultura de Madrid, en la que se han presentado varios modelos de espacios independientes, plataformas profesionales y metodologías de trabajo en Latinoamérica. Se han visto diferentes formas de producción y las líneas de investigación de diferentes centros de producción artística en contextos como México, Venezuela, Caribe, Ecuador, Perú, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Brasil, Argentina y Nueva York.

En las diferentes sedes en las que se ha realizado ( Off Limits, Medialab-Prado y Tabacalera C.S.A.) hemos podido analizar las diferentes formas de “hacer cultura” desde los particulares marcos políticos, económicos y sociales de estos países.

En ambos eventos he tenido la sensación de que algo muy gordo y muy esperanzador se está fraguando en el mundo del Arte Contemporáneo a nivel mundial gracias al trabajo colaborativo y en red.

UNSTOPPABLE GROWTH OF THE ART NETWORKS

Hello again friends and followers of this blog.

Much activity and energy in this year end here in Madrid.

This week has been held in Matadero Madrid the seminar organized by AVAM (Associated Visual Artists of Madrid), entitled "Spaces for artistic production” in which they talked and discussed about the management, productivity, socio-economic and media coverage of these centers.

I was invited to make a presentation in relation to production centres in Finland. I talked about HIAP in Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter in Tampere and the Cartes Centre of Art and Technology in Espoo. The truth is that I think my speech aroused considerable interest, perhaps by curiosity and / or real ignorance that we have in Spain about Finland in general and for operational art in particular.

The sessions were very well used by AVAM and very well received / supported in / by Matadero.
Very interesting the interventions of Pep Dardanya , director of Can Xalant, Marisa Maza, artist and representative of the Foundation Berlin Karl Hofer, Ander Azpiri, artist and president of AVAM who introduced us a few centers in Latin America, Alessio Antoniolli, the director of Gasworks and Triangle of London, Laura Dor's, representative of the Foundation Duende in Rotterdam, Ignacio Cabrero who presented the resource centers that met in his study done in Paris.

Also interesting round tables with economists and architects of the stature of Professor Loscos, José Félix Fernández and Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos and the media by Lara López, director of Radio 3, Carlos Guerrero, director of Arteinformado, the representative of the culture of Madrid area of El País (Pablo ...) and Tony Flix from Madrid Process.

We had the opportunity to meet and work experience of the first artists who have lived and produced in the production center of Pradolongo AVAM: David Trullo, Albert Corbí, Kivi Collective, Jesus Nieto and LRM Performance. And we met the spaces reform plans for 2011 that is preparing Matadero Madrid ... far-out!

What I liked was about the projects, already underway, creating, finally, various art centers in Madrid and his community. "El Ranchito" who manage and depend on Matadero (this has already begun work on an interim basis), the medium term which will AVAM also based in one of the ships of Matadero and another, also promoted by AVAM in Getafe (this is still a pre-project but would have 35 studios, a residence for artists, production workshops, auditorium, etc).

Madrid was held in parallel in the LAB LATINO, a very interesting initiative of the Center for Contemporary Art, Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences and PENSART Madrid, where there have been several independent space models, platforms and methods of working professionals in Latin America. Have been different forms of production and the research of different art centers in contexts such as Mexico, Venezuela, Caribbean, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina and New York.

In the different locations where it has been done (Off Limits, Medialab-Prado and Tabacalera CSA) have been able to analyze the different ways of "doing culture" private political frameworks, economic and social structures of those countries.

At both events I had the feeling that something big and very promising is brewing in the world of Contemporary Art worldwide thanks to collaborative work and networking.

Hello again everyone from Madrid!

I'm still in the process of adaptation to my daily life in my city but I still keep alive the link with Finland and Finnish, which I have been, I believe, forever hooked.

For example, this week in Madrid, it has celebrated the opening of the exhibition of the famous Finnish artist Juhani Linnovaara, at the new headquarters of the Iberoamerican Institute of Finland, with the presence of the artist.
Linnovaara, creative artist and mature but still very active, this time presents a good selection of prints (serigraphs), some of them marked by the strong influence that Spain and Latin America have had on his work.

In the new space of the Caracas street in Madrid, that day were also other Finnish artists as the renowned painter Totte Mannes, different personalities of the Finnish community in Spain, the Ambassador of Finland in Spain and, of course, Martti Pärssinen, director of the institution which housed the exhibition. I have also heard from the good progress of the new movie what is working the famous Finnish artist Rax Rinnekangas, of which I've ever spoken.
This is a feature film made in collaboration with the Basque Country/ “País Vasco” (northern Spain), from which we could see the trailer for presentation at last edition's Film Festival San Sebastian. The film is titled "A Journey to Eden" and will premiere in 2011 in Finland and Spain. I will keep you informed. Surely in the web of "Bad Taste Ltd" we will have information soon. And I announce my next speech in the seminar that AVAM (Associated Visual Artists of Madrid) will organize in Matadero Madrid under the title "Spaces for Artistic Creation" .My presentation will focus on some of the centers I have met during my stay in Finland over the past months: HIAP in Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter in Tampere and Cartes Centre of Art and Technology in Espoo. Hola de nuevo a todos desde Madrid!!

Estoy todavía en proceso de adaptación a mi realidad cotidiana en mi ciudad pero sigo manteniendo vivo y activo el vínculo con Finlandia y lo finlandés, al que he quedado, creo, para siempre enganchado.

Por ejemplo, esta semana en Madrid, se ha celebrado la inauguración de la exposición del afamado pintor finlandés Juhani Linnovaara, en la nueva sede del Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia, con la presencia del artista.
Linnovaara, artista ya maduro pero creativamente aún muy activo, nos presenta en esta ocasión una buena selección de grabados (serigrafías), algunos de ellos marcados por la fuerte influencia que España y Latinoamérica han ejercido en su obra.

En la nueva sede de la calle Caracas de Madrid se encontraban también ese día otros artistas finlandeses como la prestigiosa pintora Totte Mannes, diferentes personalidades de la comunidad finlandesa en España, el Embajador de Finlandia en España y, por supuesto, Martti Pärssinen, director de la institución que albergaba la exposición. También he tenido noticias de la buena marcha de la nueva película en la que está trabajando el prestigioso artista finlandés Rax Rinnekangas, del que ya os he hablado alguna vez.

Se trata de un largometraje realizado en colaboración con el País Vasco (norte de España), del que ya pudimos ver el trailer de presentación en la pasada edición del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián. La película se titula “Un viaje al Edén” y se estrenará en 2011 en Finlandia y España. Os mantendré informados. Seguro que en la web de “Bad Taste Ltd” tendremos información en breve. Y os anuncio mi próxima intervención en las jornadas que AVAM (Artistas Visuales Asociados de Madrid) organizará en Matadero Madrid bajo el título de “Espacios para la Creación Artística”. Mi ponencia se centrará en algunos de los centros que he conocido durante mi estancia en Finlandia los pasados meses como: HIAP en Helsinki, Mältinranta Artcenter en Tampere o Cartes Centre of Art and Technology de Espoo. HELSINKI-MADRID: present and future

Sí, a unos -10ºC hoy en Helsinki, inicio mi regreso a España para continuar desde Madrid con mi proyecto. Por supuesto, este blog seguirá siendo un canal abierto para la información y la comunicación, al igual que los habituales info@gilfer.es y www.gilfer.es

Esta semana también ha estado cargada de eventos en Helsinki como, por ejemplo, el Baltic Circle Festival (Internacional Theatre Festival) del que me gustaría resaltar, en su sección de Performance, la última de Leif Holmstrand (SWE) titulada “Wearing the Territorial (down)”. Una obra que habla de los límites entre la performance y la escultura, el cuerpo humano y la instalación, el proceso y el objeto,…muy buena. Amenizada por una pieza sonora grabada por el propio artista con el sonido distorsionado, recogido con un teléfono móvil estropeado, de sus propios ronquidos mientras dormía…genial!!... Un gran artista este Leif.

Y también la preformance sonora de Hans Rosenstróm titulada “Three Apart”, una instalación sonora narrativa en la que el público, en grupos de tres personas cada vez, asistía en medio de una sala oscura, durante tan sólo 6 minutos, a una experiencia sonora impresionantemente real y estremecedora. Sin moverte de tu silla, podías oir como los dos narradores de una historia (hombre y mujer) hablaban pasando detrás de ti, de un lado a otro, alrededor de los tres espectadores / oyentes que allí estábamos. Al final, la narradora, terminaba la historia susurrándote al oído y echándote su aliento, con un realismo que te ponía los pelos de punta. Allí no había nadie, claro. Todo era una grabación. Genial también. Os adjunto link del festival.

Tuve ocasión también de conocer a dos muy buenos pintores finlandeses: la jóven Kukka, que recientemente había expuesto en la Galería Forsblom de Helsinki, con una obra muy buena, cargada de concepto y plasticidad, a la vez que un poco “dura” para el espectador no iniciado en este mundillo. Me recibió en su estudio y pude disfrutar de sus comentarios y reafirmarme en la valía y el interés de su obra. Os adjunto el enlace a su web. Y pude conocer a Henry Wuorila Stenberg, veterano y reconocido pintor finlandés (muy merecido por la gran calidad de su trabajo) quien me obsequió con sus conocimientos acerca del mundo del arte en Finlandia y me enseñó, en exclusiva, algunas de las obras que mostrará en su próxima exposición en Febrero de 2011 en su galería habitual de Helsinki.

Viendo las obras de estos artistas, volví a darme cuenta de que en el arte contemporáneo no es tan importante el medio de expresión que eligen los artistas. Lo realmente importante es lo que cuentan, cómo lo cuentan y el grado de honestidad y coherencia que tienen consigo mismos. Normalmente, cuando todo esto funciona, el resultado son buenísimas obras como las de estos artistas y tantos otros que he podido ver en mi estancia en Finlandia.

Se celebró un nuevo y muy interesante “Talk” dentro del ciclo HIAP TALK en la Galería Augusta en Suomenlinna. Esta vez a cargo de Nicolaus Schafhausen, comisario y director del centro Witte de With de Rótterdam que, además, es miembro de la Junta Asesora de HIAP, que se ha reunido estos días para revisar y debatir sobre el pasado, presente y futuro de esta joven pero muy, muy prometedora institución artística finlandesa.

Inauguración de la exposición de pintura de Secundino Hernández, un jóven artista español afincado en Austria, en la galería Forsblom también. Creo que podéis echar un vistazo a la web de la galería. Entusiasta y prometedor trabajo el de este artista al que pude conocer allí, en su inauguración, en medio del éxito de público y ventas.

Y celebración del MUU FOR EARS 5-6. Presentación de la nueva edición de su colección de CD´s sobre arte sonoro y música experimental, esta vez centrado en la escena de Estonia, Latvia, Lituania y Rusia. Os adjunto link.

Empapado por todas estas experiencias y conocimiento que he vivido este año en Helsinki, comienza ahora la siguiente fase de mi proyecto, de la que ya os iré dando cuenta periódicamente desde este blog.

This week has also been full of events in Helsinki, for example, the Baltic Circle Festival (International Theatre Festival) which I would like to emphasize, in its section on Performance, the latest of Leif Holmstrand (SWE) entitled "Wearing the Territorial ( down)”. And also the performance of Hans Rosenstrom entitled "Three Apart", a narrative sound installation in which the public, in groups of three each time, attending in the middle of a dark room, for only 6 minutes, with sound experience real impressive and shocking. Without leaving your chair, you could hear as the two narrators of history (man and woman) spoke from behind you, from one side to another, around the three viewers / listeners who were there. In the end, the narrator, ended the story whispering and encouragement by lying, with a realism that you put the willies. There was no one, of course. Everything was a recording. Cool too. I had occasion also to meet two very good painters in Finland: the joung Kukka , who had recently exhibited at the Galerie Forsblom at Helsinki, with a very good work, full of concept and plasticity, while a bit "hard" for uninitiated spectator in this world. I was in her studio and I enjoy your comments and reaffirm the worth and interest of his work. I attached the link to her website. And I got to meet Henry Wuorila Stenberg, veteran and renowned Finnish painter (well deserved for the high quality of their work) who presented me with their knowledge about the world of art in Finland and he showed me, exclusively, some works that he will show in his upcoming exhibition in February 2011 in his usual gallery of Helsinki.

Viewing the works of these artists, I came to realize that in Contemporary Art is not as important means the media of expression that choose the artists. What really important matters is what they tell, how they tell and the degree of honesty and consistency with themselves. Normally, when all this work, the results are great works like those of these artists and many others I have seen during my stay in Finland.

There was a new and very interesting "Talk" in the cycle HIAP TALK at Gallery Augusta in Suomenlinna. This time by Nicolaus Schafhausen, curator and director of Witte de With Center Rotterdam, moreover, is a member of HIAP Advisory Board, which met these days to review and discuss the past, present and future of this young but very, very promising Finnish art institution.

HELSINKI -1ºC/-7ºC / SNOW and ART

Hola a tod@s desde esta ciudad del Norte cada vez más fría.

Ya en el tramo final de mi estancia en Finlandia (por ahora), esta semana comienzo mencionando un estupendo festival que ha tenido lugar aquí en Helsinki: “Äänen Lumo” Festival For New Sounds. Adjunto link a su web. No soy un especialista en este tipo de arte pero creo que la calidad y la organización fueron muy buenas y yo pude alucinar con algunos de los conciertos como el del duo formado por Marcus Schimickler & Thomas Lehn …¡nunca había oido algo tan absolutamente raro y a la vez tan genial!…increíble…muy bueno.

Durante la semana, varias entrevistas con personas representantes de diferentes ámbitos relacionados con el Arte Contemporáneo: algún crítico de arte (mujer), alguien del área de Cultura del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores (mujer), un comisario de los Museos de la Ciudad de Helsinki (mujer) y la directora del Cartes Centre of Art and Technology de Espoo (mujer). Es altísima la proporción de mujeres que están al cargo de la gestión de la cultura. Creo que es un dato importante que dice mucho a favor de la cultura en este país.

Por cierto, el CARTES fue otro de esos Centros que me encantó. Con cuatro años de recorrido tan sólo, son pioneros en la promoción de todo lo que sea “new media art”.

Son los organizadores del Flux Festival del que ya os he hablado en otras ocasiones y, creo que tienen una muy prometedora proyección de futuro. Hablaré de ello en mi estudio.

También tuvimos otro encuentro de los artistas que estamos aquí en residencia con HIAP (“Hiapsters”). Esta vez, fue una iniciativa de dos de los artistas que residen en Cable Factory, Helga Steppan and Johannes Blomqvist, y fue un tiempo estupendo para compartir conversación, comida y nuestros proyectos.

Y, por supuesto, no han faltado visitas a buenas exposiciones en Helsinki como las de Elina Bäckman en Cable Gallery (HIAP), Teemu Kangas en la Kluuvin Galleria, Krister Grähn en la Galleria Huuto (viiskulma) o Kukka en la Galerie Forsblom (artista con la que me entrevistaré la próxima semana). Finalmente y como consejo a todos los que alguna vez paséis por Helsinki os recomiendo un estupendo restaurante (no caro pero sí “un clásico” aquí por su rica cocina típica de Finlandia) “Kolme Kruunua”, que tuve la ocasión de conocer gracias a Rax Rinnekangas, gran artista y cineasta finlandés internacionalmente reconocido.

Hello everybody from this North city getting colder,

Already in the final leg of my stay in Finland (for now), this week mentioning a great start festival that took place here in Helsinki, "Äänen Lumo" For New Sounds Festival. Attatch link to website. I am not a specialist in this type of art but I think the quality and organization were very good and I could freak out by some of the concerts like the duo of Marcus & Thomas Lehn Schimickler ... I´ve never heard anything so utterly strange and yet so great! ... amazing ... very good.

During the week, several interviews with people representing various fields related to contemporary art: some art critic (woman), someone in the area of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (woman), one of the curators of the City Art Museum of Helsinki (woman) and the director of the Cartes Centre of Art and Technology of Espoo (woman). Is high the proportion of women who are in charge of the management culture. I think it's an important fact that says a lot in favor of the culture in this country.

By the by, the Carter Center was one of those I loved. With four years of travel only, are pioneers in promoting all that is "new media art."

They are the organizers of the Flux Festival which I've spoken on other occasions, I think they have a very promising future prospects. I ´ll talk about it in my studio.

We also had another meeting of the artists who are here in residence at HIAP (“Hiapsters "). This time it was an initiative of two of the artists who reside in Cable Factory, Helga Steppan and Johannes Blomqvist, and was a great time to share conversation, food and our projects.

Saludos a tod@s de nuevo desde Helsinki y bienvenid@s a este resumen semanal de mis aventuras por Finlandia.

Semana densa e intensa en contenidos y experiencias.

Comenzó con la visita a la sede de Finland Festivals y la entrevista a su eficaz y simpático director Kai Amberla. Importante resaltar que, entre los muchísimos festivales que se organizan en Finlandia, también hay varios festivales dedicados a las Artes Visuales. Aunque no he llegado a entender muy bien la diferencia esencial que tienen con una feria de arte o una gran exposición, lo importante es que existen y aquí funcionan como una plataforma más para la difusión del Arte Contemporáneo.

Participé también en un workshop que organizaba la Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (KUVA) en Helsinki, titulado “Changing Identities and Contexts in the Arts (CICA)”, enmarcado dentro del proyecto europeo “Changing Id…:Artistic Research as the New European Paradigm for the Arts”. Además de esta Facultad, participaban la University of Leeds´Centre for Practice-Led Research in the Arts (CePRA), the Gothenburg University´s Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts (FAPAGU) y algunas otras instituciones de estos paises. Os tengo que confesar que me sorprendió el altísimo nivel del workshop y de los proyectos que se presentaron…Muy, muy bien. Los que más me gustaron fueron los proyectos de Tomas Träskman, Pekka Niskanen, Hito Steyerl y Itay Ziv. Creo que en la web de KUVA (metiendo “workshops” en su buscador) hay info más detallada. Asistí también a la inauguración de la exposición colectiva de los estudiantes de intercambio de esta misma Facultad en la Galería Kaiku (allí mismo). “Circumstances” es el título y entre los participantes, dos españoles, J.Luis Ortega, de la Facultad de Málaga, con una animación 3D y Azahara del Campo Granada, de la Facultad de Cuenca, con una escultura (interactiva).

Estuve también en la presentación del documental del director y artista Rax Rinnekangas “Le Cabanon by Le Corbusier”en una librería de la ciudad. Una auténtica exquisitez de trabajo artístico. Os animo a conocer y seguir la prolífica obra de este artista, cineasta y escritor finlandés muy ligado a España, por cierto.

Y la semana la rematé con una nueva visita a la ciudad de Tampere, donde, gracias a la ayuda de Mikko Kallio, artista y encargado del área de Artes Visuales en el Arts Council of Pirkanmaa , visité algunas galerías de arte, algunos estudios de artistas (Arto Nurro, Kaija Papu o el del propio Mikko Kallio) en una antigua fábrica textil en Pyynikki y el fantástico Museo de Arte Sara Hildén; creo que, por ahora, el mejor que he visto aquí en Finlandia. No el más grande pero sí el mejor diseñado para mostrar Arte Contemporáneo. Me encantó. Y también su expo actual, muy buena, “Condition OK! And Other Art” Ahí va el link.

También visité, de la mano de la simpática Anne Paldanius, el Mältinranta Artcenter dirigido por la Asociación de Artistas de Tampere (genial!!) y la joven y prometedora Asociación de artistas Rajataide y su galería. Tuve tiempo también de descubrir una gran exposición de artistas finlandeses que se estaba celebrando en distintos espacios expositivos de la ciudad “Taiteilijat 2010” (Artistas 2010) con trabajos y espacios muy interesantes de los que ya hablaré en mi proyecto.

Greetings everybody again from Helsinki and Welcome to this weekly summary of my adventures in Finland.

Dense and intense week in contents and experiences.
Began with a visit to the headquarters of Finland Festivals and interview to efficient and friendly director Kai Amberla. Important to note that among the many festivals that are organized in Finland, there are several festivals dedicated to the Visual Arts. Although I have not come to understand very well the essential difference they have with an art fair or a big art exhibition, the important thing here is that exist and act as a platform for the dissemination of contemporary art.

I also participated in a workshop being organized by Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (KUVA) in Helsinki, entitled "Changing Identities and Contexts in the Arts (CICA)," framed within the European project "Changing Id ...: Artistic Research as the New European Paradigm for the Arts. " In addition to the Faculty, the University of Leeds'Centre involved for Practice-Led Research in the Arts (CePRA), the Gothenburg University's Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts (FAPAGU) and some other institutions in these countries. I have to confess that I was surprised at the high level workshop and projects that were presented ... Very, very well. I also attended the inauguration of a group exhibition of exchange students from the same Faculty in the Gallery Kaiku (there). "Circumstances" is the title and between the participants, two Spanish, J. Luis Ortega, Faculty of Malaga, with a 3D animation and Azahara del Campo Granada, Faculty of Cuenca, with an sculpture (interactive).

I was also in the presentation of documentary filmmaker and artist Rax Rinnekangas "Le Cabanon by Le Corbusier" in a bookstore in the city. A true exquisiteness of artistic work. I encourage you to know and follow the work of this Finnish prolific artist, filmmaker and writer closely tied to Spain, certainly.

And the week ends with a return visit to the city of Tampere, where, thanks to the help of Mikko Kallio, artist and manager of the area of Visual Arts at the Arts Council of Pirkanmaa, I visited some art galleries, some artists' studios (Arto Nurra, Kaija Papu or Mikko Kallio itself) in an old textile factory at the Pyynikki area and the fantastic Sara Hilden Art Museum; I think, by far the best I've seen here in Finland. Hola de nuevo a todos los que seguís este blog.

Otra semana repleta de actividad artística en esta activa, y ya cada vez más oscura, ciudad del Norte de Europa (ya amanece a eso de las 8 a.m. y anochece alrededor de las 4 p.m.).

Dos eventos importantes han marcado la semana:
El primero ha sido la inauguración y puesta en marcha del “Film and Media Art Festival LENS POLITICA” del que ya os he hablado otras veces. Se inauguró con una exposición colectiva en la Galería FAFA, que pertenece a la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Helsinki, titulada “Everyday Manifestations of Nationalism”…muy buena. Y se proyectó, en el auditorio de la Facultad, la película inaugural “Nostalgia for the Light”, un documental buenísimo. Por supuesto, mi valoración crítica es desde el punto de vista artístico, que precisamente es valor fundamental de este festival. Os vuelvo a remitir a su web .

Y el segundo ha sido la celebración en España, en Madrid, de la presentación de INTRANSIT Plataforma Complutense de Creadores Universitarios. Organizado por el Vicerrectorado de Cultura de la UCM y el Centro de Arte Complutense y coordinado por PENSART. Este os lo comento, por la importancia del evento en sí como proyecto artístico de alto interés y por que me vi implicado en él como colaborador extraordinario ya que, dentro de su programación, realizaron tres conexiones en directo (Skype) con tres lugares del mundo donde algún español/a está realizando algún proyecto artístico relacionado con la cultura: Londres, Chicago y Helsinki (aquí me tocó a mí). Os aconsejo que visitéis su web para informaros del proyecto. Lo adjunto.

También pude asistir a la inauguración de la actual exposición de la galería Forum Box (tras entrevistar a su directora). Un estupendo espacio, con una línea expositiva muy interesante, diferente al resto de las galerías porque está gestionado por un grupo de artistas, desde hace ya 11 años.

Y visité (y entrevisté a su directora) una fundación que promueve y facilita la cesión de estudios para artistas aquí en la capital y por otras ciudades de Finlandia y el extranjero.

…Increíble…estaba pensando en otros calificativos pero lo dejo ahí…Alucinante…
Desgraciadamente, no puedo evitar comparar con España…PUFF…¡¡Cuánto tenemos que aprender todavía!!

Cuando veo estas cosas, pienso que, evidentemente, en este país la cultura ocupa un lugar verdaderamente importante en su estructura política y social. Puede que sea mejorable, pero está a Años Luz de la nuestra. ¿Por qué será?...

Another week full of artistic activity in this active, and increasingly dark, city of northern Europe (the sun rises at about 8 am and gets dark around 4 pm).

Two major events have marked the week:
The first was the inauguration and launch of "Film and Media Art Festival LENS POLITICA" about which I have spoken before. Opened with an exhibition in the Gallery FAFA, which belongs to the Faculty of Fine Arts in Helsinki, entitled "Everyday Manifestations of Nationalism" ... very good. And it was projected in the auditorium of the Faculty, the opening film "Nostalgia for the Light", a very good documentary. And the second was the celebration in Spain, in Madrid, of the presentation of INTRANSIT Creators Complutense University Platform. Por aquí sigo y sigo...

Hola de nuevo a todo@s,

Ya no voy a hacer más alusiones a la climatología salvo que sea muy de resaltar. La nieve del pasado post duró sólo ese día y no ha vuelto a nevar. El tiempo se mantiene…fresquito pero llevadero aún.

Esta semana he seguido en mi línea de trabajo y he visitado las piezas expuestas en el Weegee Museum de Espoo dentro del Festival of New Media Art CARTES FLUX 2010. La verdad, había trabajos muy buenos: screenings, instalaciones, performances,… Entre ellos, destacaría la instalación de audio y vídeo de Natalie Bewernitz & Marek Goldowski (Unveiled Presence), que además han estado residiendo en el estudio contiguo al mío en el HIAP de Helsinki. Pero en general, muy buen nivel. Os pongo el link.

También visité el estudio de un joven pintor, Jukka Siikala, en Cable Factory. Me gusta meterme en los estudios de los artistas. Me parece que es como acceder a lo más importante, nuclear y sagrado del Arte Contemporáneo. Siempre que podáis, hacedlo…será un privilegio. Os adjunto su link por si os apetece.

Este artista era hasta hace no muchos años un prometedor trabajador en una empresa de aquí. Hasta que decidió que eso no era lo suyo y se metió de lleno en la pintura. ¡Un valiente!...Tiene menos dinero pero es mucho más feliz.

Por si tuviera poco con mi día a día, me presté a colaborar con un espacio autogestionado de artistas llamado Ptarmigan que, aunque sólo llevan año y medio funcionando, me parece que tienen un planteamiento muy interesante. Siempre están organizando eventos en torno al arte, apostando por la experimentación y las nuevas propuestas. En esta ocasión celebraban algo más relajado: una presentación del trabajo de dos artistas no finlandeses, residentes aquí temporalmente: Artur Punte (Rusia) y Gilfer (España).

Y para rematar la semana, entre una cosa y otra, he presentado un proyecto para solicitar una beca a la Finnish Cultural Foundation. Ejemplar organización dedicada a promover la cultura finlandesa, de la que hablaré también a mi regreso a España.
Por esta razón me he perdido algunas inauguraciones de exposiciones que veré este finde. Ya os contaré.
